Attempted murder trio held, new plans for A429 black spot…& Earl in hot water over shower


THREE Swindon men charged with attempted murder must remain in custody after dismissing their legal representatives. Daniel Peapell, 20, Zak Doyle and Rafaele Bretti, both 19, appeared at Bristol Crown Court via satellite link following the June stabbing of Vito Mazzotta in Eldene. But the case did not proceed as Doyle and Bretti claimed they had been wrongly advised to give a “no comment” interview by Swindon-based Ross Solicitors when initially in custody. AN ACCIDENT black spot which has seen four serious collisions in the past fortnight will have its present junction replaced by a roundabout. Work on the A429 junction with Filands on the outskirts of Malmesbury should begin in the second half of September. (WDP)

THE Earl of Cardigan, David Brudenell-Bruce, has been accused of harassing a former trustee of his 4,500-acre family estate in Savernake, Marlborough – over a broken shower. John Moore claims the 62-year-old Earl made 69 ‘nuisance’ calls over a period of two days in April 2013, insisting the trustee get a plumber out to repair the shower at his home in Savernake Lodge, which had been faulty for months, so his pregnant wife could wash. SALISBURY councillors have agreed to pay £25,000 towards manning the city’s CCTV system. The vote was unanimous to release the funds, after it was revealed that camera operators would stop working on July 31. (Salisbury Journal)
