THE Tri-force police helicopter was scrambled today to search for a rider who had been thrown from her horse.
A member of the public called the police after spotting the animal running free near the North Wiltshire Golf Club between Calne and Devizes.
Officers from Calne, Devizes and Chippenham were dispatched to the location in an attempt to locate the fallen rider and recover the horse.
Due to the large serach area the Tri-force helicopter in Filton was tasked as an eye in the sky.
The horse was later discovered by a member of the public in Hampsley Hollow, Heddington, but the rider remained unaccounted for.
An hour later the female rider was discovered by the team in the helicopter on a bridleway near to Calstone. She was treated for concussion by paramedics.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We would like to pass on our thanks to all the members of the public who assisted us today in the search for the fallen rider.
“We were also able to make contact with the fallen rider later after we were advised that her mobile telephone number had been stamped into her saddle. This was really useful to us.”
