A YOUTH was arrested on suspicion of causing GBH after a 15-year-old boy was hurt in an incident near Subway in Walcot, Swindon, last night.
He remains in custody and police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
Police were called to Sussex Place at about 8pm last night with some witnesses saying an axe was seen before several youths rode away on bicycles.
One Subway worker said today: “We were very frightened – I was pushed aside as two youths tried to get to others inside. Police arehere now collecting CCTV and taking statements.”
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We were called at approximately 8pm last night following a report of a disorder.
“A 15-year-old male was assaulted and sustained a minor injury to his back.
“We believe an axe was involved.
“A 17-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of attempted GBH and was taken to Gablecross police station where he remains in custody. Enquiries are ongoing. Any witnesses to the incident should call police on 101.”
One man, who was in Sussex Place on Monday at about 7.30pm, said: “I saw a few youngsters who seemed to be sheltering in the Co-op, then about 10 youths turned up in the square and one looked like he had a pretty serious knife.
“It’s not a great situation there at the moment after dark.”
Wiltshire Police said they had no recorded incidents for Sussex Place on Monday night.
