Man fighting for life, three others extracted from vehicle as HGV collides with turning car near Seend

A MAN is fighting for his life at Southmead Hospital after the Vauxhall Insignia he was driving collided with a heavy goods vehicle near Seend last night.

Reports suggest the driver was attempting a u-turn on the A361 at 9.10pm when the crash happened. The car was shunted 30 metres along the carriageway, rolling several times.

The three female passengers in the silver Vauxhall have also been taken to Southmead after fire officers from Trowbridge extracted them from the vehicle.

The driver of the HGV – a 44-tonne Volvo – escaped uninjured but was treated for shock.

The road was closed for five hours while the emergency services tended to the scene.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to call 101.
