Police arrest 31-year-old Swindon man in Parade rape case

A 31-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested and charged with rape and sexual assault after a Swindon woman was attacked in the town centre in September 2015.

Joyce Rodrigues, from Swindon, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court this morning. He was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Swindon Crown Court at the end of January 2016.

The incident happened around 3.30am on Monday 14 September. A 24-year-old local woman was approached in the town centre by a man who led her to an area close to The Parade and raped her.

Wiltshire Police then launched a high profile operation to find the rapist, including leaflet drops in the Broad Green area of the town and media appeals, made by the victim herself and officers.

Detective Inspector Marj MacCallum, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would like to thank the people of Swindon who have come forward and helped us with our enquiries and investigation, in relation to this case, so far.”
