Police dispatch firearms unit as Melksham man is arrested following chase through Devizes

Wiltshire Police have launched terrorism awareness campaign

A 40-YEAR-OLD man from Melksham was arrested on Friday on suspicion of failing to stop for a police officer and driving a vehicle dangerously.

Tri-force officers from the Dog Unit, Traffic and Firearms were all involved in the incident after the vehicle failed to stop for a police vehicle in Devizes at 3.25pm. It was then lost to sight in Horton Road area.

The vehicle, a red Toyota Celica, was found abandoned approximately 15 minutes later in Hopgood Close, where the three occupants were reported to have made off from the vehicle through a rear garden of a property.

PC Phil Thom and his PD Billie attended the scene and the dog tracked to a number of items believed to have been belongings of the suspects.

The items were seized and a man, aged 40, was then located near to the Travelodge by firearms officers.

He was arrested and taken to Melksham custody. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
