TOYOTA has enlisted support from Chippenham-based learning and development agency RTS Group to help more than 170 volunteers get to know the vehicles they’ll be driving athletes around in at this summer’s IAAF World Championships.
RTS Group, which works with car manufacturers like Toyota to develop dealership staff, has been taken on to help the IAAF World Championships’ volunteers – called runners – who will need to know their way around the vehicles.
The selected fleet of liveried cars is exclusively hybrid powered supporting the ‘Green Earth’ and ‘Green Management’ ideals of the IAAF’s Green Project.
As an official partner, Toyota is providing its Mirai fuel cell vehicle as the Marathon lead timing car and more than 130 largely petrol-electric hybrid vehicles for athlete transportation during the World Championships in August, and during the Para Athletics Championships in July.
A team of eight trainers from RTS Group spent two days working in London ahead of the Championships, helping runners with hands-on driving training, vehicle familiarisation and safety.
The runners got the chance to ask all the types of questions, and learn about all the features, that everybody wants to find out about when they collect a new vehicle.
The aim has been to leave the runners feeling able and confident with their Toyota fleet, so they are free to focus on delivering their passengers safely.
Malcolm Miller, managing director of RTS Group, said: “We are delighted to be supporting our client in this way and are confident that the volunteers will be able to contribute to the success of the Championships.”
The World Para Athletics Championships run from July 14-23 and the IAAF World Championships are on from August 4-13 and will be staged at the Olympic Park.
