Swindon woman named as pedestrian killed in A4 tragedy, two Marlborough men arrested

THE woman killed as she was walking on the pavement along side the A4, near Savernake Hospital, on Thursday afternoon has been named.

Jane Thompson, 54, was from the Redhouse area of Swindon.

Sadly she died at the scene.

The incident happened at 5.30pm on the A4; two cars – a blue BMW 328 and yellow Seat Leon Cupra – were travelling towards Froxfield when the BMW left the carriageway and collided with the woman.

Two men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and have been released on conditional bail.  They are 24 and 27-years-old and are both from the Marlborough area.

Her family has decided not to release a tribute or photo as Jane was a very private person and would not have liked any press attention.

Wiltshire Police are still investigating the collision and are asking for witnesses to come forward.

PC Mark Cargill¬†said: “We are appealing for witnesses to this collision, if you saw or heard anything suspicious in this area, around this time, please contact me on 101; if you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
